Toastmasters Meeting of 2-12-06

Meeting of February 12, 2006

Greetings Fellow Toastmasters,

Isn't it wonderful how everybody rose to the challenge after Mother Nature treated us to a record setting snowstorm over the weekend. However, the blizzard didn't deter our Educational Vice President, Doris Chernik, at all - she joined with a few thousand other brave souls in Manhattan's Central Park to try and get a bit of skiing in, and Doris was back in perfect form Monday evening to call the Roosevelt Island Toastmasters meeting to order. She also served as Word Master and Timer. Malcolm served as Toastmaster for the evening, and I (Woody) led the Table Topics session. Al presented Speech #6 (Vocal Variety), Uche completed Speech #3 (Get to the Point), and Silvia "Persuaded us with Power" in Speech #9. Doris challenged us to use the verb "addled" (or its adjective or noun form) in our presentations, and most of us managed to do so. Severe whether and winter sports was the general theme for Table Topics that Al, Doris, Uche, Silvia, Jill, and Marlene formulated their responses around. The session went off without a hitch and was evaluated by Jill, who served as General Evaluator and Ah Counter for the evening. Marlene, evaluated Al, Doris evaluated Uche, and Club President Jim Luce, evaluated Silvia, whose speech was as creatively presented as Jim's evaluation. Two guests were introduced during the meeting, both of whom reside in the Whitestone section of Queens currently, and are natives of China. Silvia was voted ?Best Speaker,? Jim was ?Best Evaluator, and Al took ?Best Table Topics Speaker? honors. After a brief Officers Report, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,
Woody Deas,
Secretary
